Name change and reclassification of a common herb

Did you know that the herb Rosemary has been reclassified into the Sage family?  Thanks to friend K I found this out recently. Read here for more information.

During my Science of Gardening courses last year I learnt that plants have been going through a reclassification process so I guess this is one of the many.  But it seems strange to link these two considering the look and activity of the two types of plants as I know them. However they both have blueish flowers and a strong scent from their ‘leaves’.

I can’t help thinking of the song with ‘parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme’ in it and wondering whether one day someone will find a reason to add parsley and thyme to the sage/salvia family; or change the parameters of the sage family so they fit.  Sorry – that has to be a mindless meander.
