Getting more information about these Tasmanian islands

If you enjoyed my jaunt to Tasman Island then read on.

Starting today Friday 8th February, the weekend long Tasmanian Wooden Boat Festival will get underway.  Centred on the Hobart wharf and stretching from Hunter St towards Salamanca all manner of stalls, events, and boats will be on show.

One stall, located between Mures restaurant and Hunter St, is dedicated to promoting the welfare of Tasman, Maatsukyer and Deal Islands.  From 9am until 6pm daily, three volunteers from the Friends of these three islands organised in separate shifts throughout the day, will be in place to answer your questions.  I will be there late this afternoon if you want to call by and say hi.

That is, members of the Friends of Tasman Island (FOTI),the Friends of Maatsuyker Island (FOMI), and the Friends of Deal Island (FODI) will be delighted to explain more about the lighthouses and the history and the current conservation work happening on all three islands – and much more.

If you are wondering how you can find out more about these Friends groups, then simply become a member of Wildcare Tasmania for the tiny sum of $25 (If you buy a National Parks Pass then you will be offered the choice to join Wildcare Tas for free). Once you are a member of Wildcare Tasmania, then you will be given access to an enormous list of groups that you offer to become ‘Friends’ with.    Look here.
