Through the rain we followed a side road back around a hill or two, and glimpsed Lake Gordon. Then we took an opportunity to look briefly at the external parts of the Power Station. According to Hydro Tasmania, “Gordon is the largest power station in Tasmania. Placed underground, it has 432 MW of generating capacity supplied by an 80 metre vertical intake. The dam on the Gordon River holds the water back with a 140 metre high concrete arch construction.” You can read the Technical Fact Sheet here.
Of course we had little idea of what we were looking at and agreed that when a public guided tour is announced we will visit again.
