Red rocks

While we stopped at the Scotts Peak Dam boat ramp I noticed that many layers of the rock were a deep reddish purple.20170930_103202.jpg

20170930_113503.jpgAgain on the road up to the nearby Red Knoll Lookout and in the vicinity, this type of geological formation persisted.  It seemed to be a sedimentary shale-like rock. 20170930_105203.jpgThe Australian Mechanics Association produced a paper with considerable detail.

I wonder if this rock was argillite.
